We Need to Change UK Politics for Good
James was elected councillor for the Netherthong ward of the Holme Valley Parish Council for a four year term in 2019. In the coming years James will be standing in elections at council and parliamentary level to introduce Direct Democracy and to return political power to the people. James has recently relocated from the Netherthong parish to New Mill, bith within the Holme Valley South ward of Kirklees Council in the Colne Valley parliamentary constituency.
Direct Democracy
James has recognised for some time that politics in the UK is broken. Representative democracy is failing the UK. Governments in recent years have lost touch with the people and the traditional parties ignore their manifesto promises and implement policies without the consent of the electorate.
Rather than acting as the servants that they should be, our politicians are drunk with power and are out of control.
By evolving a system of Direct Democracy for the United Kingdom, the problems we face with waste, corruption and incompetence in the current representative democracy system can be tackled by independent people from outside the established parties.
The UK needs elected people in office who will serve and protect our rights and who will answer to their electorate and not to a Party whip.
Why Direct Democracy?
Direct Democracy ensures that the people always have control over their politicians and law makers. Switzerland has shown the way in political control by the people through Direct Democracy.
Since 1848 Switzerland has operated direct democracy, efficient government by the people and with their consent. The result is a country that has had no wars, that enjoys an average wage of £95,700 and has limited debt to 47% of GDP.
Compared to the people in the UK the Swiss are faring rather well with their Direct Democracy!
How Does Direct Democracy Work?
With Direct Democracy, you get to vote on the policies and decisions affecting you, your family and your community. No longer will your local councillor or MP vote against the people's wishes on the important matters that affect us all.
No longer will unpopular and expensive projects wasting taxpayers' money be forced on people if they do not want it to happen.
Doing nothing is no longer an option. Whether in Westminster or Kirklees, the failure of representative democracy and the traditional political parties needs to be addressed.
To take back control of decision making in the UK, you can make a start by expressing your views on the People's Parliament on national issues. When elected representatives are confronted with the views of the electorate continually, they will have to respond to the people all the time and not just in the few weeks before an election.
You may have seen and heard a lot of the political parties in the run up to the recent elections, but will you see or hear anything from your local elected Labour or Conservative councillor or MP until the next time they come looking for your vote?

In future, when you cast your vote, consider voting for common sense, honesty, prudence and independence by voting to put yourself in control through Direct Democracy for the UK.
Let's make sure that when future decisions are made in the Holme Valley, they are demonstrably made with the consent of the people through Direct Democracy.
How good would it be to have Direct Democracy throughout the UK? How good would it be to have the prosperity and the peace enjoyed by the Swiss for 175 years?
